Description:
Olive-brown lapwing with bold, white supercilia meeting on forehead and nape; black crown and lores. Black bill and legs. In flight, white secondaries contrast with black primaries and sandy-brown upperwing-coverts, and has black tail band. Adult breeding has yellow wash to sides of head, and black-and-maroon patch on belly.
Distribution:
Rare passage migrant through the western parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, with no latest records. Usually found in mountain steppe, dry grassland, stubble fields and scrub desert, with relatively sparse vegetation and low grass, up to 3000m.
Behavior:
Diurnal. Foraging behavior much like that of other lapwings, making short runs, then stops and reaches to ground to take prey. Chiefly feeds on insects, such as grasshoppers, beetles, crickets and moth larvae; spiders; frequently small amounts of plant material (grains, leaves and flowers).
